Since 2001, self-taught artist and illustrator David Zinn has brightened the streets of Ann Arbor with his colorful characters made with chalk and charcoal.
Zinn improvises each piece on the spot and makes use of found objects, stairsteps and street fixtures to create ‘trompe l’oeil’ illusions.
His most frequent characters are ‘Sluggo’, a bright green monster with stalk eyes and irreverent habits, and ‘Philomena’, a phlegmatic flying pig.
You can follow David on Instagram and Facebook for almost daily street chalk illustrations. Some of his artworks are available as archival prints in his shop.
