Father and son Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka were known for the production (between the mid-19th century and 1930) of highly precise and detailed biological models manufactured out of clear, coloured and painted glass.
Blaschka’s glass models depict invertebrate animals like jellyfish, snails, sea anemones, corals, sea cucumbers, squids, or sea slugs as well as various exotic plants.
In his recent series entitled ‘Blaschka’, Italian still life photographer, Guido Mocafico shows his fascination and pays homage to Leopold and Rudolf’s most impressive glass models that still exist and are stored in several museums and universities around the world.
Using his own unique style, Mocafico portrays Blaschka’s dedication to their masterpieces by photographing them on a black background, capturing the elaborate details of each artwork.
‘Blaschka’ is currently on display at Hamiltons Gallery in London through May 24th, 2016.
