Portugal-based illustrator, designer and drawing teacher Sílvia Franco Santos has found a way to recycle bottle caps by using them as the canvas for her scratched ink portraits.
Initially, Sílvia used the bottle caps as containers to mix her inks, but after a time of using, they ended up in the trash. The idea was born by chance during one class when she was teaching drawing; she remembers trying to scrap the first one and since then it has become an addiction.
To create her portraits, Sílvia pours China ink inside metal caps and with the help of an art knife she scratches on the surface of the cap the desired depiction.
‘For me, the caps have become some kind of cult objects that translate moments of spiritual transformation and images that inhabit my consciousness.‘ the artist stated on Bored Panda.
With her little creations, Santos demonstrates that creativity has no limits, and there is no need of large canvas and lots of tools to create beautiful art.
